Taxis
There are many taxi operators in the region and many regular cars (can) act as taxis as well.
A few things before you get in the car:
- negotiate a price... this will reduce the possibility of paying too much for the services provided.
- make sure you talk the same currency... pounds as in Egyptian pounds? Or British pounds?
- point out exactly where you want to go... this camp/hotel in this region/beach please! You know?
A taxi in South Sinai should cost around 1LE per kilometre...
But, because most taxis will drop you off and go back empty, the driver will need to travel the distance twice for the price of a one way trip. He will therefore always try and make you pay the return trip too! This is the bargaining margin you both have to work with. So anywhere between 1LE and 2LE per kilometre and you both should be alright :-) Always negotiate with a smile; if you think you are going to pay too much, thank the driver and find another one! Walking away will, most of the time, drop the price considerably.
Please be warned that taxis around Sharm el Sheikh charge considerably more for a ride... bargain hard!
